THE SPIGOTTED TSF CLOSURE OPTION

PIN

This may be my shortest blog article ever.

When your TSF is in its final years of operation, you can start adding ingredients into your tailings stream to help accomplish closure.  For example, if your closure plan calls for a clayey cover, you could add clay to your tailings in the mill.  You would probably want to use thin layer, managed tailings deposition (i.e., subaerial tailings) at this point so you can get a stiffer beach.  You could make this zone as thick as you wish.  And if your closure plan calls for a protective layer over this, you could stop adding clay for the final layers.  Again, this layer could be as thick as you need it to be.  And, even better, you could add soil amendments to the final layers to promote plant growth.

This one is for free.  But if you use it, please name it after me.

Just kidding.  Sort of.
